The blended satellite and in-situ temperature product above, shows several large anomalies across the globe. In the Northern Hemisphere, warm anomalies were observed across much of Turkey and the Middle East, the western U.S., Japan, Mongolia and parts of northern and eastern China. The combination of high heat and the lack of rain has led to serious drought across parts of eastern China. In contrast, cool anomalies were observed across much of Europe, southwest Asia and eastern North America. In the Southern Hemisphere, most of the continental areas were near or below average. Some of the coolest anomalies were observed across portions of Paraguay, northern Argentina, and Brazil. In fact, no significant warm anomalies were observed across the major land areas south of the equator.
