As noted by the New Jersey state climatologist (Dr. David Robinson):

• August marked the second consecutive month with below normal statewide precipitation, based on reports from New Jersey mesonet and other stations.
• As of early September, all of the New Jersey counties were in drought emergency status and statewide water use restrictions were in place.
• Rains earlier this summer helped replenish New Jersey reservoirs, but as of early September they were still below average:
  • Jersey City Reservoirs
  • North Jersey District Reservoir
  • Newark Reservoirs
  • United Water of NJ Reservoirs
  • Combined Northeast Reservoirs
