On a statewide basis, unusually dry conditions have persisted for much of the last seven months of 2002, with June-December ranking as the 12th driest such period in the 108-year record.

According to the Missouri State Climatologist (Adnan Akyuz):

Drought Alerts and Advisories remained in effect in December for several Missouri counties.
