Climate of 2003 - May Idaho
Drought National Climatic Data Center, 13 June 2003

|
As noted by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (Ron Abramovich):
- Groundwater levels have dropped 20 feet in some areas in Big Lost basin in Idaho.
- The Army Corps of Engineers at mid-May was dredging the outlet of Bear Lake so water could be pumped out and used for irrigation during the summer. Bear Lake is expected to be at a historic low level later this summer.
- Above-normal precipitation this spring (especially in April) has improved short-term conditions across much of Idaho. But long-term moisture deficits remained.
- For example, in the Salmon Falls basin (south of Twin Falls), monthly average streamflow has been below average every month since June 1999 and reservoir storage at Salmon Creen Reservoir has been below average since the beginning of 2000.
