As noted by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (Ron Abramovich), drought emergency declarations were declared in three additional counties during July. So far in 2004, the Idaho Department of Water Resources has issued 20 Drought Emergency Declarations which have also been approved by the Idaho Governor.
Low streamflows and decreasing ground water levels have occurred in parts of the state. Ground water levels at a well near Arco (in the Big Lost/Little Lost basins in eastern Idaho) have reached the lowest levels in its 50-year record. Several large reservoirs in southeastern Idaho are only 50% full or less (Jackson Lake Reservoir, Palisades Reservoir).
