South Carolina Drought

South Carolina has experienced unusually dry conditions in recent months, with several seasons ranking in the tenth driest, or drier, category (see table below). According to the State Climatologist (Hope Mizzell), the return to a pattern of below normal rainfall over the past eight months led the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to issue an incipient drought declaration statewide in early June.
