THE TOTAL MONTHLY SERIES, BY STATE, ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE PERIOD 1931/32 THROUGH 2001/02: HISTORICAL CLIMATOLOGY SERIES 5-1, "STATE REGIONAL AND NATIONAL MONTHLY AND SEASONAL HEATING DEGREE DAYS WEIGHTED BY POPULATION (2000 CENSUS), (JULY 1931 - JUNE 2002)." THE STATE AVERAGE DEGREE DAY TOTALS FOR EACH MONTH ARE DERIVED FROM THE DIVISIONAL VALUES BY WEIGHTING EACH DIVISION BY ITS PERCENTAGE OF THE TOTAL STATE POPULATION AS ADDUCED FROM THE 2000 CENSUS DATA (BUREAU OF CENSUS,2002).
